Separate prohibited, restricted and dangerous goods

DHL’s Indonesia guidance distinguishes prohibited goods, conditionally restricted items and dangerous goods; its examples include lithium batteries, perfume and aerosols. This classification explains why a product needs review. The applicable decision still depends on the carrier, service and destination.DHL Indonesia: prohibited, restricted and dangerous goods

Do not assume that a familiar product category is accepted on every route. Start with what is physically in the item: liquid, alcohol, aerosol, battery or another component that affects transport. Ask the purchasing service to assess the actual listing and chosen option, not only the category name.

Treat perfume as a route question

DHL Express Malaysia’s perfume guidance says alcohol-containing perfume requires an approved dangerous-goods business account and is not accepted as a personal shipment under that guidance. It is a Malaysia-specific carrier example, not permission or a ban for every other service.DHL Malaysia: shipping perfume

Before buying fragrance, provide its bottle volume, alcohol information if available, packaging and destination. Ask whether the agent can purchase it and whether an available route accepts it. If composition is unknown, leave acceptance unresolved instead of treating a small bottle as automatically safe to ship.

Describe the battery configuration accurately

For an electronic item, ask the seller for the battery type and relevant specifications, and whether the battery is installed, packed separately or loose. Pass that information to the service assessing transport. A watch, rechargeable accessory and separate power bank should not be described as the same contents.

Request any documents the selected route requires and let the service confirm acceptance. Do not remove warnings, omit a battery or change the contents description to obtain a cheaper route. If the required facts cannot be obtained, consider leaving that item out of the shipment.

Keep the acceptance attached to the item

Save the item ID, exact contents, destination, proposed service and the date of the answer. Recheck if you change the option, add another item or choose another route. Acceptance for one parcel does not establish acceptance for a later combination.
